Adding the Borders and Finishing

8 Determine the horizontal measurement through the quilt centre and trim the remaining two border strips to this measurement. Pin and sew to the top and bottom of the quilt ensuring you are pinning these borders at right angles to the side borders. Trim excess fabric and press.

9 Your quilt top is now complete. Quilt as desired (see page 118 for advice) and bind to finish (page 118).

Chapter Seven

Spinning Tops and Train Tracks

Any quilt made from these colourful fabrics would brighten any room and the two quilts in this chapter are certain to do that. The fabric range is called Spring Fever from Me & My Sister and has an unusual mix of colours – gorgeous apple greens, pinks, yellows and mauve – oh yes, and tangerine as well!

After much debate we chose our fabrics for the Spinning Tops quilt to be a mix of apple green and mauve for colour A and pink and tangerine for colour B. This isn’t the most usual colour combination but see how great it looks – very vibrant and dynamic.

The design for the Train Tracks quilt uses the same colourful fabrics but creates a very different look with its combination of four-patch blocks and snowball blocks.
