CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Aria

Golden chandeliers rimmed with lit candles lined the path down a long corridor. A long glass window lined the wall all along the way, showing lush forests outside as far as the eye could see.

No Campus, no students, nothing but trees. Okay, so it looked like I was in a tower, at least sixteen stories high, right in the middle of forest.

The fortress of the red, headquarters of the faction of the windy flame. Flamenado tower.

Campus had to be at least a few miles away if I couldn’t see it from here. Everything around was lost in a thick blanket of vegetation. The failing sun looming low in the sky.

Doves soared through the sky over the trees, rushing home before the fall of night. At least they were free. I, on the other hand, was trapped.

The window ended, replaced by a gray wall that stretched down for what seemed like forever. The hardwood floorboards creak under my feet with every few steps. Every stomp of my feet released the smokey scent of fires long doused and damages long repaired.

That Bane, he really is a ticking time bomb.

I approached an open door to my left, about halfway down the hallway, and stepped inside. It was filled with furniture. From a neat and cozy old dresser with a matching stool on one end, and a queen bed with an adorably pink fluffy comforter and square black bedside tables on either end.

Somehow the size of the furniture was way out of whack, giving an almost funhouse mirror effect with some pieces being way too large and others quite a bit too small. Still, there were no Kings or Kingly clutter in sight. So yeah, this was the place I needed to be.

I slipped inside, nudging the door closed behind me, and pulled the thin black book from my uniform blouse.

Finally, I got to see what secrets it held beneath its dust caked covers.

The cover was leathery with gold symbols glittering all across the front and it was bound by what looked like dried dragon skin? I ran by thumb over the spin and yes, there was no doubt, it was definitely dried dragon skin.

Come to think of it, why had I been so sure there was anything in this book that would help me in the first place? I mean sure; it did fly off the shelf, just cruising its way to crash right into my face like some inside homicidal piece of literature. But I’d never even stopped for a second to ponder just how fucking weird that all was.

I tightened my grip around the cover, almost annoyed by its earlier assault.

Well, let’s just see what truly hides on these pages.

I opened the book exposing off white pages littered with a messy font of words. After a few pages I was sure this truly was a book of black magics, not spell related but more like a history book. A history of dark magics and dark magical creatures and Users.

It mentioned Wendigos, Babuks, Jorogumos and even Shinigami, those dreadful soul collector demons.
