If at any time the dog has difficulty performing, back up the intensity of the distraction until the dog can ignore it, then begin increasing it again, changing distractions as he becomes more solid in performing that one Task.

The distraction conditioning should be carried out with all of his commands and Tasks separately.

Generalization

Most dogs do not generalize well, though some definitely do it better than others. This means that if you first teach your dog to “sit” in the living room, then ask him to do it in the driveway, he may not respond.
