More About Ambition
After doing this inquiry, John reported back to me that he continued to experience freedom from self-centered ambition. He was able to take the inquiry into his job on a daily basis. He continues to experience relaxation from the story I lack.
I’ve seen a variety of results from using this inquiry for ambition with many other people over the years. For example, there can be a kind of downtime before someone’s true purpose reveals itself. Some people feel a bit directionless for a while, after realizing that much of what they’ve been doing in their careers has come from a basic sense of lack. As that sense of lack relaxes, these people’s desire to continue working in their particular fields falls away.
Other people immediately discover new careers for themselves. They become very clear about what matters most to them. One woman in particular jumped wholeheartedly into a new business after doing this inquiry. For years she’d been driven by a sense of lack, but her newfound clarity allowed her to do what she really wanted to do, without the self-pressure she’d been feeling for so many years.
Doing this inquiry changed my own desire to be an attorney. I found that what had been driving me—the sense of lack—was no longer there. This discovery led me into being of service to others by using these inquiries in private sessions and in groups. For me, ambition based in lack has sneaked back in now and again, but that lack has been seen through with the use of this inquiry, and I’ve become very clear that nothing is lacking in myself or others. That realization brings deep relaxation into all my efforts to help people. When we’re no longer operating from the story I lack, there’s is a natural flow to life that can be trusted completely.
