Keeping Food Cold

Milk, cheese, meat, and some other foods must stay cold until you cook or eat them, or else they can make you sick. Other things, like fruit and drinks, just taste better cold. Chocolate bars may not normally need to be refrigerated, but they’ll be chocolate soup if packed in a hot car and not kept cool!

You can carry food that needs to be kept cool to your cook site in a plastic ice chest or insulated container with some ice packs or resealable plastic bags filled with ice. If you plan on having leftovers, bring enough ice to keep extra food cold until it’s eaten.
