5: Overview
At the beginning of this essay we proposed to present a manner of explaining, viewing, and understanding the constitution, origin, and conservation of loving humanness as the Homo sapiens-amans lineage of bipedal primates to which we belong. We have done this by showing the possible operation of neoteny and the biologies of love and intimacy in the establishment of our lineage and of our particular identity as human beings. In this process we have proposed that we human beings arose as sexual, sensual, and tender languaging bipedal primates, and that this is what we still are - so far. Furthermore by arguing about the origin of humanness in the biologies of love and intimacy, we have shown that human beings, like all living beings, are systemic entities that bring forth their world and conserve it as they live, by living as the kinds of beings that they are. Moreover, we have also argued that although we are languaging bipedal primates who live and exist in conversations, becoming human has not been the result of a history of fortunate genetic mutations properly selected, but rather the result of a history of systemic conservation of a manner of living realized and conserved through a systemic dynamics that co-opts all genetic variation that do not happen to deny its realization and conservation. Thus, we have argued that loving humanness is the result of a primate evolutionary history in the conservation of a manner of living that entails sexuality, sensuality and tenderness, entwined in the daily living in the biologies of love and intimacy. Loving humanness is, one could say poetically, a work of aesthetics as a life lived in a loving, easy coherence with the cosmos (biosphere) that makes such a life possible. Indeed, sensuality, tenderness, and sexuality, braided in a loving coexistence, are such basic features of our humanness that we have to invent rational and irrational arguments to manipulate our emotioning so that we may deny in our daily living any or all those human dimensions when we want power and control. And we manage to do so, barely surviving with some measure of social integrity in the patriarchal culture in which most of the human kind lives today, because we act as if we believed those arguments, even though we know them to be invalid. Because we know those arguments to be invalid in the unconscious dimensions of the psychic space that we learned in our childhood, now and then we find enough courage to respect our emotions, and we cautiously accept love as a basis for the reasoning that tells us that collaboration is closer to our intimate biological self than competition and aggression.
Now, and regardless of whatever else we may wish to do, to continue as Homo sapiens-amans, we must conserve our living as sensual, sexual, and tender loving beings in actual ecological coherence with the world that we bring about in our living. And, moreover, we have to do so while we are aware that the
