Frank burst through the door of the record store to find Joe sitting at the counter.

“Morning, Frank,” called out Joe as Frank kept moving to the back of the store. “You seem to be in an awful rush this morning.”

“Hey, Joe,” muttered Frank, almost running to the back.

Marquis was there, dusting the shelves as per usual in the early hours after the store opened.

“Frank,” said Marquis. “What’s up, man?”

“What happened to you last night?”

“What do you mean?”

“I just woke up in the middle of the forestry center.”

“Looks it, dude. You’re a mess.”

“Where did you go? I don’t remember you leaving there last night.”

“What on Earth are you talking about, Frankie?”

“Christ, dude. You remember going there with me last night, right? Do you remember what we saw?”

“Yeah, dude. Calm down. Breathe. Everything is okay.”

“It is? Seriously, is it? Tell me what you remember, please.”

“Okay, okay. Chill. We got there, I don’t remember what time, but we went to find Tami. She was there. But she was acting a whole bunch of kinds of weird. So I just kind of took off quietly to let you take care of her or whatever. Is she okay?”

“I don’t know,” gasped Frank. “You obviously didn’t see what I saw.”

“What did you see, hun? I’m starting to get the feeling this shit isn’t good.”

“No, it’s not, man. Like I said, I just woke up there. And Tami’s car is still there.”

“And what happened with you and her last night?”

“You didn’t see the house? The house from the video that I showed you?”

Marquis paused a moment, searching his memory. “No, I don’t remember that.”

“You don’t seem too certain of that.”

“I guess I’m not. Shit. I’m feeling not so good all of a sudden.”

“She walked right into that house last night. The goblins were there. The other women in the black dresses were there too. That Charlotte girl from the video too. Then it all just disappeared in a blast of light and the next thing I know, it’s twenty minutes ago and I’m lying flat in the middle of an empty basement dugout.”

“And you said her car is still there?”

“Sure is.”

“Shit, Frank. Are you okay?”

“I don’t think so. I think I better go and try to find Tami.”

Frank turned and headed toward the door.

“Frank, wait, don’t just…” Marquis called out to no avail. Frank was outside and walking across the street to the coffee shop before he even finished the admonishment.

It seemed completely beyond the realm of possibility, but Tami could be there. Whether that be the case or not, Frank found himself simply being pulled in that direction. If she wasn’t there, something else would be. It had to be. For reasons he could not explain to himself, he was just certain of it.

Whatever he was looking for, he found no sign of it as he entered. Customers were milling about, taking their drinks over to the condiment stations. The baristas were hard at work making said drinks. It was just business as usual.

Frank approached the counter.
