CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

RUSSO

I was sitting in an empty room that my cousin placed me in at his friends’ house in New York feeling like why had I put myself in this situation. There was hardly anything in this place but ants and roaches and I could tell it had been a long time since anybody lived here. Just back from the hospital my arm was sprained and not broken.

Placing my cell phone against my ear I waited for Reggie to answer. “What were you thinking, nigga?”

“Listen, man, please tell me how the fuck was I to know that you were telling her the Black Nazi was her problem?”

“Common sense, Reggie.”

“Common sense?!” He yelled. “Are you fucking crazy? All I know was that your wife was in the bathroom hysterical when you came home in that wheel chair. When I asked her why she said you being paralyzed was all her fault. So I cleared shit up.”

“But it’s obvious if she believed that then I must’ve told her that. All you had to do is use reasonable deductions and keep your mouth closed.”

He laughed. “Man, you are whacked the fuck out. If you really think I’m supposed to keep hold of your lies you don’t know shit about me.”

I took a deep breath. “Did you call the precinct?”

“Yeah, she’s being processed but I’ll scoop her when I can.” He paused. “Did you drop the charges yet?”

“Yeah, but of course they gonna play games and say I gotta let her fall out the system first.” I took a deep breath. “This shit wild. All of it, man.”

“Nah, what’s wild is that you lied on her.”

My eyebrows rose. “Come again?”

“Nigga, Amina may have done some foul ass shit but she was no where around you when this happened. And since when you start getting the police involved anyway? You know, with your own case pending, cops is the last thing you need sniffing around you. You not even ‘sposed to be out the state.”

“I know.”

“Then why you lie?”

“Revenge.”

He laughed. “Wow, what the fuck type people are we?” He asked in a high-pitched voice. “Everybody in this bitch is tripping hard. And now you living out New York which on my heart I think is a bad move.”

“So you would’ve cleaned my pamper and stuff?” I asked him.

“Russo, I already told you how I feel about that. I ain’t keen on niggas shitting and I’m definitely not with looking at another nigga’s dick. But I’d prefer to do it myself then have you there. That dude is bad news, Russo. Why don’t you give me the address so I can come scoop you. It ain’t even know need in being over there now anyway. Amina gone at least for the night.”

“Aight,” I nodded. “You right. But work on getting my wife out first. Then I’ll get the address when Cambridge comes back.”

“By the way, who plan on cleaning you up over there?” He asked me.

“I don’t even know, man.” I said. “I ain’t think that much ahead.
