Faith and the Ways of God

Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts.

When we know the ways of God, it makes us better apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. Yet knowing God’s ways is not something only those in the fivefold offices can benefit from; it makes all of us better at leading people to Jesus. It makes us better at building up, comforting and encouraging people. It makes us better disciples. It also makes us better healers, and it contributes to helping us see more people get healed. If we need healing ourselves, knowing God’s ways increases our faith.

For example, one teaching says that after you have prayed for people’s healing once, you should not pray for them again if you really have faith. If people are in this kind of faith camp, it can cause them to walk out of the presence of God, where healing is taking place, sooner than they should. But if you know the ways of God, you know what to do in those situations.

One time I was praying for a man with a serious physical problem. At first nothing was happening, so we continued to pray for some time. He then started getting hot and his pain got much better, although it was not gone entirely.

Feeling the heat, the man said, “Okay, I believe! I’m ready to leave.”

I said, “Do you still feel the heat? Is something still happening?”

He replied, “Yes, I’m still hot.”

I told him, “You shouldn’t leave yet! This is the Lord’s presence for healing. Let’s keep praying into this.”

He said, “No, it’s okay. I believe.”

That man did not understand the ways of God. There is a time to believe, and there is a time to receive what you believe. It was that man’s time to receive what he was believing for, because it was coming in that place, in that moment. One of the ways God works is through a sick person feeling heat, as that man did. In those moments it is important to stay with the process.

I have been serving God for 45 years and have been praying for the sick for over 35 years, so I want to help you learn these ways of God from my experiences so that you can be healed and/or see more healings in others. A sensation of heat is an indication that God is at work in someone. You should also note that rather than feeling heat, the person being prayed for may sometimes feel electricity or even cold. If you are thinking heat and the person feels cold, that is okay. Whatever form it takes, stay with the healing process.

Another time, we were praying for a little girl who had just had her second liver transplant. Her body had rejected the first one. She was only nine or ten years old, but I believe she had a gift of faith.

This little girl knew I was coming to her church, and she told her pastor, “Take me to the meeting and let him pray for me.
