A Brief Word About Your Values
Have you ever felt like you were drowning in obligations? If so, you are seriously not alone.
The key is to not let your commitments overrun you. But given that you are extremely busy women, there could be a real chance of that. So how do you fight off that urge to over-obligate?
Simple. Don’t say yes so often.
This may mean you have to sit with some very uncomfortable feelings sometimes. It may mean you have to disappoint someone—maybe even your own child or the boss who scares you. It may mean you have to sit on your hands when nobody else in the room jumps in to help.
Ultimately, to really take care of yourself, you may have to redefine who you are in the world. Because when you get right down to it, obligations are really about values. If you are rigorous about what you agree to do, the things you truly, deeply care about rise to the top of the list. That’s when you become far more effective and a whole lot happier. Meanwhile, the things that are less important simply disappear.
This is how we move from being harried to being centered, passionate, and free.
Getting clear on your values is a critical skill for extremely busy women. There really are only twenty-four hours in a day, eight of which should be spent asleep. That leaves sixteen hours to rock and roll. With whom will you share that precious time? And how much of it should be spent on yourself?
These are key essentials to consider when crafting a more conscious life of self-care.
I know some of the obligations we have cannot be changed. Mothering. Taxes. Dentists. House repairs. Critical but tedious work tasks. The list goes on, which is why it’s even more critical to get clear on your values.

If you feel your mind wandering to something inconsistent with you, thank it. Let it go, say it doesn’t match with me, and get present.
