Chapter Six

Nina chewed on her fingernails as she bounced her leg up and down on the floorboards, anxiety taking over her body. The bed creaked beneath her weight as she shifted and flopped back onto the pillows. She closed her eyes, inhaling Logan’s cologne. The scent comforted her and she let out a steadying breath.

Logan was back and alive, but she had no idea if he was among the injured. Camille hadn’t been too forthcoming with information whether because she didn’t know or she was withholding it, Nina was unsure.

It had been an hour and a half since Cara and Camille had escorted her to Logan’s bedroom and asked her to stay put. She wanted to go out and see what was going on, but didn’t want to be in the way. Both humans and wolves had been moving through the house—some of the humans were naked. She wasn’t a prude by any means, but she knew most of these guys on a first name basis—it was awkward to say the least. Not to mention, walking around with giant wolves was a little unnerving and outlandish. Was this how her son would be raised? There was still so much she didn’t know about Logan—about his family. In some ways, he was like a stranger to her now.

Her thoughts were interrupted when the door creaked open and Logan walked in. He was shirtless, with only pants cinched around his waist. His hair was wet like he’d just taken a shower and a few rivulets of water rolled down his lean abs. He didn’t appear to be injured, thank goodness.

“Hey,” he said as he shut the door.

“Are you okay?” she raked her gaze over him worriedly; still looking for any sign he might have been hurt in the scuffle. She let her gaze linger on his right shoulder for a long moment, admiring the tattoo there that she’d always found sexy. It was an intricate design that he had designed himself, and it looked wonderful on him. Now wasn’t the time to be lusting over him, she needed to know he was okay. She continued to check him over until she was sure he truly was okay.

“I’m fine. Shifting heals minor injuries immediately. Serious injuries are another story.”

“Shifting?”

“Yeah. The change from wolf to man. It speeds up the healing process.”

“Right.” She nodded and ran a hand through her hair. If she hadn’t seen it and didn’t know Logan so well, she’d think he was crazy. Hell, maybe she was the crazy one. She’d only questioned the events of the past twenty-four hours a billion times.

“I’m planning an attack on the other pack. Jason’s tried to be diplomatic and work things out, which was all well and good until you were attacked and people started dying. Travers has taken it too far now, and this has gone on for almost a year. That’s too long. The dispute has to end before more people in my pack get hurt—or worse. If all goes according to plan, this should all be over in a few days.
