15 Chapter Fifteen

“All right, spill it.” Mari barged into the bathroom, with Joy close behind. “Who is that ...”

“And why haven’t you told us more?” Joy continued.

Okay, so Bradley’s hands becoming a permanent fixture on her back had been a wee bit noticeable. Renee had detected that they’d never left once she’d returned to him after her sale.

She hadn’t tried to rectify the situation because she hadn’t minded one bit.

She had no idea what she was doing, what they were doing. She was still in shock that he was here. And now she had to try and explain it all to her two best friends? Where to begin.

“That’s Bradley,” she said softly.

“That’s Bradley?” Mari screeched.

“Shhh,” Renee grabbed her by the arm and pulled her closer. “This place isn’t that big, do you want the entire studio to hear?”

“Holy, shit. You didn’t say he looked like that!” Joy bounced on her heels, trying to keep her excitement in check.

“What was I supposed to say, he’s the hottest thing I’ve seen in a long time? Which he is, for the record.”

“Agreed. So what’s he doing here? You didn’t say he was attending tonight.” Mari eyed her warily. They hadn’t spoken since yoga a couple of days before. But this was the kind of thing friends texted. She knew she hadn’t missed something as important as that.

“I didn’t know he was going to be here. I’d invited him, of course. But Omaha is a long way from Carmel.”

“So why’s he here?” Mari repeated.

“He dropped everything and flew in. His brother was heading home for the weekend, so he decided to pay me a visit instead of staying there alone. He wanted to be here. For me.” She brought her arms up in a self-hug, enjoying the thought of being at the center of his world for a moment.

Joy and Mari exchanged a look.

“Oh, stop it already. I know that look. Bradley and I have been chatting a lot. And we’ve talked about getting together after the show. This just speeds things up a bit.”

“And you’re okay with that?” Mari asked.

“Of course. I know we haven’t had much of a chance to talk about this, but he’s ...” How could she put it all into words when she didn’t understand it all herself?

Renee huffed. “Look, I know this must seem weird. And maybe it is in some way. But I almost feel like there’s some mystical force at work here bringing us together. You know me, I don’t believe in ghosts or spirits or any of that crap. But something made this real.”

“Your dads?” Joy piped in, trying carefully to keep her excitement from spilling over.

“No. Well, I don’t know.” Renee leaned back into the counter, thinking about it. “I don’t believe in all that, you know that. It’s just been a strange ride from the moment we kissed. I feel like I’ve been on the fast track with this whole thing. And while I’m not about to get sucked into a relationship quickly without thinking things through, he’s captured my attention.
