Chapter 9: Coming Undone

I forced myself to open my eyes. They felt as though they were being held shut with iron hooks. Once my eyes decided to cooperate, I was able to see that I was in a bed, but it wasn’t my bed. It was Adonis’ room I was resting in. The bedding had been changed since I was last in here. Instead of the red velvet colored bedding, it was now a royal purple.

I sat up in the bed to take in my surroundings a little better. I could hear water running and figured Adonis was taking a shower.

I slowly got out of bed. My feet touched the cold hardwood floors, and I winced at the feeling. I slowly made my way to the fireplace to set in one of the Victorian style chairs.

I sat in the chair for a while losing my thoughts to the changing embers coming from the logs. The water has turned off in the bathroom, and I figured Adonis would be out any moment.

“Amelia, you’re awake,” the male voice said. The person speaking wasn’t Adonis.

“Orion!” I placed my hand over my chest. “I thought you would have been Adonis.”

“No. I’m your babysitter until he returns from speaking with father,” Orion said. He didn’t sound happy about being a babysitter as he put it.

“So, he made it back from Akkadia?” I asked leery of hearing the answer.

“He did. He made it back shortly after Sophie’s dumb ass took you back to your apartment,” Orion replied. “The other one made it, too. We had to force him to stay away from your room until Adonis returns. That’s why you are here. He was annoyingly incessant.”

“His name is Sebastian,” I said.

“Yes, he said that as well. I’m not fond of him.” He released a small but exasperated sigh. “You must be starving, let’s go find you some sustenance.”

I didn’t reply, only giggled at his use of words. It appears Orion wasn’t keeping up with current dialect like Adonis did, or he was just a vampire’s version of old school.

We walked the long, long way to the kitchen, and for some unknown reason I felt drained before I sat down on the barstool.

“What do you prefer to eat?” Orion asked.

“I’m fine. I’ll make my own food.” It felt odd being around Adonis’ brother. He gave off dodgy vibes and made me want to flee to the next room. I don’t believe that is a judgment of his character, rather a judgment of how I feel around other supernaturals.

I got up from the barstool and felt an instant wave of dizziness. I began to sway from left to right. My knees became weak as I slowly began to fall. Orion rushed over and caught me from behind. The familiar tunnel vision that encroached my mind began to slowly take over.

My vision focused to a view of the Temple. Sebastian and Mathias were both standing in the middle of the stone floor speaking, maybe even arguing. Sebastian looked tense and on edge.
