CHAPTER 15 ZARIA

No one could have ever told me when I first walked in this house, I would be here. My ass was about to be Mrs. Reed and I couldn’t be happier. We were finally at a place where we respected each other’s thoughts and wishes. He was actually thinking things through first without reacting. I know he wanted to kill Laci bad as fuck, and he still doesn’t trust her, but he let it go for Freedom.

My baby was learning to communicate more and the only time he would snap off and talk to his self, was when he was pissed and trying not to kill somebody. Not trying to pat myself on the back, but, pat pat. He just needed the love of a good woman to balance him out. Even though I was just as crazy as he was, we complimented each other. He tamed me when I needed it, and I beat his ass when he needed a reality check.

Staring at my ring for what seemed like the millionth time today, I couldn’t help the feeling that came over me. Just as fast as it came, it went away. The thought hit me out of nowhere. I wondered how my father was looking at me. My greed and trying to stunt is what killed him, and now I was in love and about to marry the man that did it. Knowing I failed my father, the tears started to form in my eyes. I was supposed to be avenging him, but instead, I started fucking the enemy.

“Zee, you don’t hear my ass talking to you?” Not wanting my tears to fall, I couldn’t turn to face him.

“No baby, what did you say?”

“Freedom and Laci is going to be a problem.” Thinking he was about to kill his best friend, just like that my tears dried up. It’s like the moment I felt he needed me, my instincts kicked in to be there for him.

“What do you mean?”

“She blames him for his kids not being in the house, and now he drinking his self to death. He is my protector, my second set of eyes, and my conscience. If he is not focused, that puts me in danger.”

“He has been there so long, I think you just tell yourself you need him. You know like you embedded him in your mind. You have been doing this shit by yourself really. When you do a hit, do you wait for anyone? Who clears out the people before anyone else even gets to the scene? Who calls the shots? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t love Freedom. That is your brother and you will never cross him, but in the way that you think, you don’t need him.

You need him for other things, and since I been here, you don’t really need him for that either. Just let him be your brother and allow him to live baby. His life has been about you for so long, you need to free Freedom.
