While each executive arrives at the table wanting to discuss the corporation as a whole, each invariably has a major concern that centers on his or her own department. Discussing the needs of the organization and outlining how security could benefit the executive's specific business unit help to acknowledge the goals that each executive must accomplish, while noting that certain goals could potentially be realized by enhancing security. Conclusions will be reached, and a new advocate could be the outcome. The executive's help might be indirect. A request might be made to enlist her as a supporter to approach senior management and to present her own argument for the importance of enhanced security.
The IT manager's time commitment is not to be underestimated. Compiling the meeting list, constructing a specific plan for each group, and then making individual pitches is an involved process. But it remains the optimal forum in which to garner support.
