Huey or one of his brothers must have alerted the rest of The Earls to their imminent arrival, because half of the Earl Family was already there when they walked into the Four Seasons Hotel lobby. Markio’s two younger sisters, Mariah and Shakia, were the first to rush in for hugs. Then came his beautiful albino cousin: Chanel, and her lovely mother—Rose, who’d just turned fifty but still looked thirty. Rose’s other two children, Bankroll Reese and former Miami Heat player Rodney “Hot Rod” James, were just as happy to see Maria as he was to see them. Huey’s two adult children, Khalil and Khalace, better known as Tits and Tinky, were also present, as well as Kay’s daughter—Kayshawn. They had already gone and purchased half a dozen fifths of D'usse and several cases of beer, and the drinks started flowing mere seconds after they walked into the spacious inviting penthouse suite.

Kay, Buck, and Huey had carried in Markio’s shopping bags, while Markio held on to his cash-filled duffels. He took the duffel bags into the massive all-white bedroom and took out two $50,000 bundles of hundreds for his sisters. With Bankroll Reese’s forty-million-dollar net worth and the $22 million Rodney had gotten from the NBA, Rose and her children were well taken care of, but Markio still gave Chanel and Rose $25,000 bundles of fifties. He offered the same amount to the others, emptying his two duffels of fifty dollar bills. Only Reese and Rodney turned down the cash, and Markio gave their share to Kayshawn and Tinky.

After a while, Markio stepped away to the bathroom to answer a FaceTime call from Nikkia. He stood the phone up against the wall on the white marble sink, and Nikkia took a long moment to look him over, biting down on her bottom lip as she watched him study his reflection in the mirror. He looked at the phone screen and blew a kiss at the sexy faced attorney.

“Can you say success?” Nikkia asked, a triumphant smirk raising the corners of her pretty mouth.

“I believe I can. Why? Do I need to?”

“You absolutely do. The EIC has been granted. Judge Lang and I go way back to my rookie days in the courtroom, and as soon as I mentioned that there had been a homicide on your back porch when you weren’t even home, she granted the motion. You’ll have to appear with me for a video hearing tomorrow at noon, but as of now you’re officially an Illinois resident. Congratulations.”

“Thank you so much, sweet lady, even though I think you only filed that motion to get me back in Chicago for your own dirty lil’ reasons,” Markio said, beaming a 1,000 watt smile.

“I might have.” She knitted her brow. “What’s all that music I hear?”

“Don’t kill me,” he said, “but my daddy’s family slid through on me. You know it’s been a minute since they last saw me.”

“Great, that’s even better. It just means I won’t have to wait to meet your family.
