Mighty Bugs

We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.

Numbers 13:33

There were people who lived on earth in the early days of Bible history who were giants. They were also great warriors. When Moses sent spies to see what the Promised Land was like, they came back telling stories of these giants. The spies said they felt like small bugs compared to those giants. Ten of the spies were terrified of the giants and loudly told their fearful story to the people. But two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, were not afraid. They knew that “bugs” with God on their side would become mighty bugs.

The people were very upset by the report of the ten spies. They began to think that Moses had brought them into the desert to die. Joshua was upset too, but for a different reason. He said, “The land…is exceedingly good…the Lord will lead us into that land…and will give it to us…do not be afraid of the people of the land because we will swallow them up” (Numbers 13:6 – 9). Caleb agreed and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” You see, a small weak person plus God equals victory. It doesn’t matter how big the problems are.

We all face big things that seem overwhelming. Perhaps you struggle with math or reading or have a physical problem that slows you down. These problems are like giants, but God can help you overcome your giants and achieve great things in spite of them.
