DEMON TIME

I stood in my bedroom with the phone on speaker, waiting for Alecia to answer. I had plans tonight. Well, I was supposed to have plans tonight, but I wanted Alecia to come with me. If she said no, I didn’t know if I would go. She’d been back from Cuba for about a week, and I know she had a long week at work, so she just might complain that she’s tired. But a bitch was desperate, and I really didn’t know if I would take no for an answer from her.

It was Saturday, and my kids were with their grandmother, so it wasn’t like I didn’t have someone to watch them for me tonight while I went out. Everything was in order, and I just prayed that Alecia would answer this phone and agree to hang with me tonight.

“Hey, my bad. The people were here doing our closet, and they were showing me the finishing touches. What’s up?” she answered the phone, sounding out of breath like she ran to get the phone.

This was my second time calling her because when I called the first time, she hadn’t answered.

“Did they finish? Why do I feel like you’ve been working on this closet for longer than anything else in the house?” I asked.

“Because Montana has just as much shit as I do, so they had to custom make the shelves and everything to hold all of our stuff. It’s done now. The hard part is going to be organizing the closet with my clothes, shoes, and bags. That’s where you, Sage, Celine, and Shakia come in. What’s up? Where my babies?” she wanted to know.

“With Pandora. What are you doing tonight? I need you to come with me somewhere,” I said.

“Kelsey, I’m about to take a shower and get my ass in the bed. It’s damn near nine at night. Where the hell we going this late at night? Besides, girl, have we forgotten who I’m engaged to? By the time I can even say that I’m going somewhere, you know Tana will try to wrap that shit up,” she expressed.

I groaned because I already knew this was coming. I wouldn’t say that Montana had Alecia on lockdown or anything like that, but that nigga didn’t play fair. He wanted Alecia all to himself and would try to shut some shit down in a second. What I needed her to do with me tonight was important. This was supposed to have already taken place, but I had been putting it off for a couple of months. I found my balls tonight, and I wanted to step out, but I needed my girl to come with me.

“You remember Omelly, right?” I asked.

Although Alecia and I had attended two different high schools since I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, she still knew damn near everything about my life before we met. She was my best friend, so I didn’t spare anything about myself with her.
