A COOL BREEZE HAD BLOWN in sometime during the night, and James woke chilled, with the sun in his face. Annoyed, he pulled the blanket over his head, and rolled over on his side. He wasn’t ready to get up and face the world quite yet.

His leg hurt. It had taken some time last night to fall asleep, and it was already throbbing this morning. He stretched it out gingerly, not wanting to open the wound back up.

He lay in bed for several more minutes, listening to the morning sounds of the town. Birds were chirping, and a dog was barking somewhere down the street. He sighed deeply, then pulled the blanket from his face and sat up.

He had a lot to get done anyway.

Today was the big day; the first Church social. He was fairly excited about it, especially since the Parson had been having him help plan the event. He had been getting some games and contests set up, something to get people involved.

He swung his legs from the bed gently, frowning as he noticed that blood had seeped through his bandage overnight. He would need to change it before getting dressed.
