What the hell?

I sat up and dialed Jackson’s number. He picked up before I even heard a ring.

“Turn on the TV,” he yelled. “Channel nine. Hurry up.”

“What happened?” I asked as I staggered into the living room and snatched the remote.

“Just hurry up,” Jackson said again. “They teased the story before the commercial break and are about to go to it.”

The television seemed to take forever to come on. The news anchor answered my question before Jackson did.

Early this morning, the bodies of Lance Brooks, a local private investigator, and a woman identified as Ashley Cross were found in an abandoned building near the Lucky Lancelot, a strip club in the San Fernando Valley owned by Brooks. A police spokesperson declined to disclose exactly how Brooks and Cross were killed. Police say they have no motive for the murders at this time and refused to divulge additional details pending completion of their investigation.
