Dejah

“Iknow this nigga ain’t honking for you to come outside?” Mama complained as Shawnie pulled up.

“He only does that because he knows you don’t like him.” I tried to not roll my eyes as I slipped on my sandals to leave.

“Call him and tell him to come in here, Dejah. You ain’t no easy ho.”

“Okay, Mama.” I dialed Shawnie’s number. “Babe, my mom wants you to come in real quick.”

“So she can cuss me out?” Shawnie replied, and I could hear him killing the engine.

“Please?”

“Only because I love you.”

I was smiling so hard my mom was looking at me like I had lost my mind. “Okay.” I damn near ran to the front door to let Shawnie in.

I’d been feeling Shawnie since my friend, Shanice, showed me a picture of him. I didn’t care if he was prison. I was even the one that picked him up from the prison. We got a room for two days, and I’d been hooked ever since. There was dick, and then there was just got out of the pen dick. I swore I had a limp for two weeks.

But no matter how much I tried, Shawnie couldn’t see me as the girl that really loved him. He was fucking all kind of bitches, and my stupid ass still loved him. I really thought I was going to lose him when his ex popped up in the picture. And I didn’t even know what had transpired between them, but I was happy that I not only Shawnie chose me, but he left all his bitches alone too.

I wasn’t no hater, and if it didn’t work out with Shawnie and he wanted to go back to his ex-girlfriend, I would be hurt. I wouldn’t try to fight her or try to make Shawnie’s life miserable. I would’ve just moved on.

“Babe, can Jaya use your bathroom real quick?” Shawnie opened the door with his cousin standing next to him.

I have to admit that I wasn’t the biggest fan of Shawnie’s cousin. I thought that she was another one of the bitches he was fucking at first. But I learned that she was actually his blood relative. It’s not that I didn’t like her. I just didn’t know her, and I felt like she was more team Keisha. Shawnie said that she and Keisha had been friends since they were in kindergarten. Now how the fuck was I going to compete with that?

“Yeah, sure.” I smiled. “How you doing, Jaya?”

“I’m good. This baby stay on my bladder though.” Jaya rubbed her nonexistent stomach.

“Hi, Ms. Tomika,” Shawnie spoke to my mother as I was giving Jaya directions to the bathroom.

“Hi. Nice to meet you,” Jaya spoke up as well to my mom before heading to the bathroom.

“You do realize that Dejahnae,” my mom spoke my full name, “ain’t no play thing, JaShawn?”

Fuck. Here she goes.

“Of course, ma’am.” Shawnie stood, not feeling the heat from my mother’s interrogation.

“So what is your intentions with my daughter?” Mama scooted to the end of the couch like she was couldn’t wait to hear what Shawnie had to say.
