Chapter Seven
The afternoon turned into the evening and Verity was completely relaxed and enjoying her time with her men. The pool was amazing, she was so in awe of it. The Sithen had designed a very organic space, zero entry on one side, the other side, a deeper eight or so feet and between the amorphous shape meandering into a stone grotto on one side, and a hot tub on the other. She was currently lying on a pool float, a fruity drink in her hand, her sunglasses soon to not be needed. The sun was going down and the lights on the house were winking to life around them.
Carrigan was sitting on the chaise closest to the pool, his attention on a tablet in his hands. She turned to look at him, curious as to what had him so engrossed. âWhat are you doing?â
He looked up. âMaking a few appointments.â
âFor?â
He smiled. âShopping for you, tailor sessions for the guard, the Courtâs dress maker to come and take your measurements for your debut dressâ¦â
âOh, so youâre actually doing work. You donât have to do all those things.â
He laughed. âYes, I do. They need to get done. Until you appoint a Court assistant, itâs my job.â
âHow do I do that?â
He waved it away. âStill some time away. Donât worry.â He looked up. âDid you want me to join you?â
Did she? Well, seeing him there on the chair, in a pair of low slung board shorts, his hair back in a braid behind his head, the metal piercings in his face winking in the weak light, shirt off, belt of Apollo on display⦠Yes, she wanted him in the water with her. She still wasnât sure he actually was interested in her regardless of what everyone was saying. Luckily she was stopped from answering when Nassar approached her.
There was a sudden shift to her float and moments later she found herself being flipped over and dunked into the water.
âI never did understand the concept of a pool float,â he said with a laugh. âReally, whatâs the point? If youâre going to be in a pool, you should be in the water.â
âAss! You ruined my lovely drink!â she giggled. She was beginning to enjoy Nassarâs cockiness.
At the mention, another appeared on the small table closest to Carrigan.
âSee,â he said with what she was coming to realize was his trademark smirk, âno harm, no foul. Plus, I like you better when youâre all wet. Help me out here, Everett.â
She felt Everett move up behind her before she even knew he got in the pool. How a man so large could move so quietly was a mystery.
âI have to agree with Nassar, you are much more fun when youâre wet.â A wave of water hit her on the side of her face and Everett chuckled.
âSo we are going to just splash me? No trying to get my bikini off or take advantage of me in the grotto?â she teased and splashed them both, then went under, surfacing away from them moments later, her hair a heavy curtain behind her head.
