Lying in bed, I kept torturing myself rereading old text messages from Lex. I tried reaching out to him but to no avail I got nothing. The moment Lex walked out I knew it was the end of us but still I tried to reach out. I couldn’t get the image of his chilling smile out of my head. I had never seen so much anger and resentment from Lex when he looked at me. It hurt and I wanted desperately to fix it but I didn’t know how.

I was forced to climb out of bed, at the sound of the alarm going off. Securing my robe around my body I met my mother at the door with confusion. She didn’t frequent our home and I preferred it that way.

“Hi baby.”

“Mom, what are you doing here?”

“I came to see you.”

Allowing her in, I already knew that was a lie. Talon must’ve called her to talk some sense into me but she was the last person I’d take advice from. I used to value my mother’s input but those days were long gone. Ivy was the only true ally I had in my corner. Everybody else had their own ulterior motives and I couldn’t trust that.

“How have you been?”

“I’ve been okay. You?” I asked trying to hide the skepticism in my voice but this exchange was awkward and it was hard to ignore.

“We’ve been well. Your father misses you very much.”

“Let him know I’ll come by one day this week.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Alright, let’s cut the concerned act. Talon called you and that’s why you’re here right? To remind me of my obligation and that I have a job to do?”

“He did call but I’m here because the things he shared alarmed me.”

“Oh you’re alarmed by me lying in bed sleeping my days away but you weren’t alarmed handing me over to a man any of us barely knew.”

“Handing you over? You agreed, Sienna. You make it seem like we forced you, the final say was yours and you’ve been penalizing us for it for years. Enough is enough!”

“Did I really have a choice? Why would you even ask me to do it in the first place?”

“I was desperate, we all were. Things were bad and at the time it seemed like a good idea. It was a win for everybody and we’d all get what we wanted-.”

“Except we all didn’t get what we wanted.” I replied, folding my arms across my chest.

My life had been on pause for the last four years. Not to mention my actions hurt somebody I truly cared about. None of that was what I wanted and it damn sure didn’t feel like I had a choice.

“I’m sorry, if I could go back I would do things differently but I can’t. None of us can, all we can do is make the best of things now. I miss you Sienna, your father misses you.”

“I miss you guys too but it hurts. I tell myself I need to get over it but every time I look at you guys I don’t even recognize you anymore.
