Me, Cheese and the woman were sitting on the chairs looking out into the living room. Cheese's eyes were bloodshot red and every so often tears rolled down his face and he’d wipe it away roughly.

The two bodies lay on the floor in front of us.

Cheese looked at me. “Check again.”

I got up and looked out the window. “Yeah. They all gone now.” I sat back next to him. “We leaving? Because I can’t…I can’t stay here a moment longer. My…my stomach hurts.”

He nodded and looked at his brother and the addict. Focusing on the woman he said, “Repeat what I told you. I need to make sure you got it right.”

She had been crying so she sniffled a little. “I’m ‘spose to tell the cops that my man shot Roland.”

“And what else?”

“To wait until you've been gone for fifteen minutes before I call.” She clasped her hands in front of her. “That’s good right?”

He nodded. “If I find out you said anything else I'm gonna come back for you. You know that right? ‘Cause everything in my heart telling me to be done with you once and for all. But I’m trying to leave you alive.”

“I understand.” She nodded. “But who do I say shot my man?”

“Who you think?” He paused. “Why you think I'm leaving the gun?”

“But they won't believe I shot him in self defense.”

Cheese grinded his teeth and I could tell all patience was lost a long time ago after his brother was killed. Taking a deep breath he reached into his pocket and pulled out a sack before tossing it in her lap. “Do you think you can convince them now?”

She smiled. “Yep, it was definitely self-defense.”

“He shot my brother and you shot him when he dropped the gun. He's on that flakka so they definitely will believe you killed him. If nothing else because you was afraid he’d kill you next. He already bit into your foot. Show ‘em,” He pointed to her wounded foot. “And that's all you gotta say.” He stood up and looked down at her as she tore into the drugs. “Dirty bitch.” He looked at me. “Let's go.”
