I woke up surrounded by heat. A stone chest was pressed against my back, a hardness against my ass. I attempted to turn, but Dante’s arms had me locked against him. At my movement, he stirred, his face buried in my hair.

I…had no idea what to do. Last night was an emotional blur. I remembered firing at him, vaulting over the couch to tackle him, and then, the next moment, my bare body was pressed against the wall as he pushed me over the edge. I closed my eyes, trying not to remember the way it felt to have his tongue against my skin, the way his finger burrowed into my depths, the liquid heat flaming at the center of my core. Not that I would ever admit it to him, but last night had been the best experience I’d ever had.

He was demanding and bossy, but last night he’d been one hundred percent focused on my needs as well. I had never cum so hard in my life, my body still shaking long after he’d crawled under the bed covers with me last night. Since he did such a good job, I figured he deserved to sleep on a real mattress.

However, w hat I hadn’t expected, was to wake up in his arms. We’d fallen asleep turned away from each other, but somewhere in the middle of the night, he had flipped over, taking me in his arms. With the heat of his body, and the heaviness of the covers, I was sweating, but I didn’t dare move right now.

I held my breath, waiting for his breathing to deepen before I tried to slip out from his arms. I pulled the pillow to take my place, letting the blanket fall back over his broad frame. He looked peaceful when he slept, almost like he really was an angel carved by Michelangelo. But I couldn’t admire him forever. I had work to do.

Dante had said last night that it wasn’t him or his family that had murdered my father. But did I believe him? Right after he said that, he’d seduced me. What if that was just a distraction?

Sneaking into the walk-in closet, I slipped into some comfortable jeans and a t-shirt. I would have to forgo the shower this morning if I didn’t want to wake Dante. I didn’t want him to know where I was going just yet. He hadn’t moved an inch by the time I came out of the closet. Shutting the door softly behind me, I made my way into the living room.

It was a fucking mess. The sofa was still turned over, the floor littered with buttons from his shirt. My own clothes were tossed haphazardly along the carpet. And there were two bullet holes in the walls. Those would need to be filled, sanded, and painted over.

I grabbed my purse and keys, heading out the door. It was still open from the night before, so all I had to worry about was the lock clicking behind me.
