Chapter 23

Alohnzo

As Tahira pulled her car into the driveway, Noble was walking down from our front door. I frowned a little because I hadn’t spoken to Noble since the day he told me to get the fuck out of his house. I was wondering when he would stop being stubborn.

Tahira rolled down the window. “Hey, Noble. What are you doing?”

“I came by to talk to Alohnzo. You got a minute?”

“Yeah,” I replied and stepped out of the car so Tahira could park in the garage. “What’s up?” I walked toward him.

“We’re going on vacation to Bali in a few days, but before we leave, I wanted to ask if you could keep an eye on the crib for us.”

“Of course. As neighbors, I always got your back, no matter what.”

“And, um, I also would like to apologize for what I said to you. I was emotional.”

“Understandable. Constantine was and is incredibly special to you.”

“No question. I realize that you were only trying to help. My pride and ego got in the way, but it should not reflect on our friendship. We’ve been close since the day you moved to Sand Cove. I admit that Luca isn’t here to save me anymore, you know.”

“I get that. Man, no hard feelings. The women we love are too close for us not to get along. We gotta keep the tradition of Sand Cove alive.”

“Facts. So, we’re good, right?”

“Yeah, man, we’re good,” I said.

We shook hands and hugged it out.

As we stepped back, Alistair was pulling into his driveway.

“Tru just came home from the hospital. Kinsley had the baby,” Noble said.

“Really? Tru went with her?”

“Yeah, Kinsley and Tru talked, and then her water broke. Alistair was at work.”

Alistair didn’t pull into his garage; instead, he got out and walked over to my driveway.

“Hey, congrats on the baby girl,” Noble said.

Alistair rubbed the back of his neck, shaking his head. “Thanks, but, uh, she’s not mine.”

“How you know so fast?” I asked, wondering if he requested an instant DNA test.

“The baby needed a blood transfusion, and my blood type didn’t match. Pop’s did, though, so he gave blood.”

I shook my head because this was a mess. Pop was the father?

“Damn,” Noble said. “So, the baby is your sister?”

Alistair nodded, looking at me. “What you think about that, little big bro?”

“I don’t think anything,” I replied honestly. “I mean, I hate that this is happening because I know you care and love Kinsley. The question is, what are you going to do now?”

“She doesn’t want to be with me anymore. She wants to leave. Pop doesn’t seem to care too much unless he’s just acting tough for me. He doesn’t want me to say anything to Mama. It makes me wonder if he’s ever going to tell her.”

“Not our problem, and Kinsley shouldn’t be your problem anymore if she doesn’t want to work things out. You want to work things out with her?”

“She’s still my wife, but if she doesn’t want to move on from this, I may have to go back to the island to get a divorce or annulment.
