Levi had gone to take the seat Milo had just vacated. It wasn't that I didn't want him there, I did. I just couldn't encourage this possessive bullshit, not when we needed to work and live together. The bastard that arranged these lifebonds was having a real giggle when they gave me three bounty hunters. No chances to get a break away from each other at work. Oh no, we had to go all in.

"Bring that rocking chair over here," I said to Levi.

The living room was technically made for eight people plus whoever they wanted to entertain. When I'd first moved in I'd just had what I needed, a couch and an armchair when I wanted to curl up small in front of a window. It had looked absurd though, all of the wide open space just sitting there. So I'd brought in more furniture to make it look a little less ridiculous. Now it looked like that had been a good thing.

Levi looked at me, lips pressed tight, but he sighed and brought the rocking chair over without argument.

"I'm looking through the coven database. Milo's new to the area, so he's tackling the notes the bounty office gave us and the Cauldron. Why don’t you go after your magpie angle?" I said.

Levi looked at me long and hard. I wanted to swat him on the nose and tell him to stop trying to be an alpha dick and get on with things.

"I can cover the magpie angle. There are a couple of places on the Cauldron and other places I can poke. Where's Arrow?"

There was a stiffness to him. A sharpness to his tone. I ignored it. We were all just going to have to get on with this shit as best as we could.

"The gods only know. Maybe he's trying to find a hole to hide in given he'd rather be at the bottom of a peat bog than with me," I said.

Being judged thanks to my mother irritated me to no end. It wasn't his fault. I had some sort of idea what the cu sith tied to her went through, but that didn't make it less frustrating when one of my lifebonds stalked off because of it.

I could feel Levi watching me. How long was it going to be before he asked who my mother was? Or more, demanded to know?

Milo returned and sat in the seat next to me without a word. I focused on the database in front of me and we settled into an uncomfortable silence. This was great. Just a dozen or so decades of this ahead of us.
