I spend the rest of the evening snuggled up to Daddy. We watch dumb cartoons, and he tells me I’m pretty.

I tell him he’s crazy, and he kisses my forehead.

We talk about sex and love, and he asks me if there’s anything I’ve ever wanted to do in the bedroom but have been too scared to ask about.

I tell him that I’ve always wanted to be tied up, just to see what’s it like.

‘Sensory deprivation?’ he asks.

‘What do you mean?’

‘Blindfolds, ear muffs, that kind of thing. When one of your senses is shut off, the increased sensitivity in the others is really something.’

‘That sounds… good,’ I giggle.

He makes me hot chocolate. I drink it. While I lie next to him on the couch, he traces his fingers over the shark drawing on my leg.

I call him Daddy, he calls me Baby Girl.

It’s a simple evening, full of happiness.

But if I’d have known what tomorrow would bring, I wonder how happy I would have been.
