Chapter Six

All Roads Lead to Rome

“And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth

over the kings of the earth.

Revelation 15-18

I. Satan’s System

Revelation 17 and 18 are parenthetical chapters dedicated to mystery Babylon, so before we go into the Vials we need to look at the subject that God set aside for two whole chapters of Revelation.

During the first half of the Tribulation, the world will be under a one-world religion. While there might still be some limited form of Christianity and other religions around at the time, they will start to be swallowed up by this one world religion that the Bible calls in Rev. 17:5, “ MYSTERY , BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”

The False Prophet will lead this Babylon religion much in the same manner that John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus Christ. In the first half of the Tribulation, the whole purpose of the Babylon religion is to pave the way for that moment of blasphemy when the Antichrist defiles the temple in Jerusalem and declares himself to be God.

Following that moment in the middle of the Tribulation the Antichrist, his Image, and the Devil himself will be worshipped by the world. As was stated before, Satan has always wanted three things: to be worshipped, to have God blasphemed, and to annihilate the Jew. Satan’s system has always worked to accomplish those three things .

II. The Two Babylons in Revelation

We will see as we go along that there are two Babylons in Revelation. The religious Babylon is in chapter seventeen, and the political (or commercial) Babylon is in chapter eighteen. They both look alike because they are very similar. They overlap in their identities, because they both are the city of Rome . One is the religious side of Rome; the other is the political side.

You can tell you are looking at two separate Babylons in Revelation because of the way they are destroyed.

The End of Religious Babylon:

Rev. 17:15-16, “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore , and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.”

First of all we see that this Babylon dominates the world when it is destroyed. It rules peoples, multitudes, tongues and nations . It rules over the nations, and yet it is the nations that destroy it. The only way this is possible is that it rules religiously.

The ten horns under the control of the Antichrist destroy this Babylon. This is in the middle of the Tribulation when religious Babylon is dissolved so that Satan may be worshipped directly.
