After an hour of setup we’re good to go. I secure the last of the cables to the stage with a strip of duct tape and toss the roll into the toolbox. Picking up my beer, I lean against a tent pole and look around at the forest surrounding all sides of the estate and the landscape that’s a gardener’s wet dream. The temperature has dropped, and it’s cool out. Only a few drunk idiots stagger over the pristine lawn. A pretty girl in a sexy maid’s uniform stumbles for the tree line. Maybe she can’t walk in her strappy shoes on the soft ground, or maybe she’s drunk or upset. I scope out the forest, and things seem quiet. Maybe she’s skipping the queue to the bathroom. Who knows.

I move toward the house and toss my bottle in a trash can. A blonde busting out of her nurse’s uniform has her eyes on me as she strolls in my direction. None of these chicks embrace originality. I smile because my girl isn’t a people pleaser or a follower of trends. The girl smiles too.

“Hi.” She lowers the front zipper on her dress to showcase a lacy red bra. “You look like you could do with a friend.”

Girls only want to fuck me because I’m in a band. Guaranteed, any gig, ten people or a hundred, there’s always a groupie at the end of a show eager to do whatever I want. I ignore them for the most part, but if Jared and Becca sneak away, sometimes I’ll let one of the less annoying girls put her mouth around my cock. But I want Lee keeping me occupied from here on out, and tonight, I make sure she knows it.

Where is she, anyways?

The girl twirls her blonde locks around a finger. “I’m Gemma.”

“I’m not interested.”

Her smile falters. “In talking?”

“In anything you’re offering.” My eyes target Lee as she walks away from her friends while they converge at one end of the patio. They all watch as she struts over to me, including the guy about to realize she’s off-limits.

I tip my chin at Lee. “See that girl?”

Her head swivels around, and she frowns. “You’ll catch something if she’s who you’re interested in. She’s new and has slept with half the football team already.”

This chick is nothing.

“She’s my girlfriend, and you’re a fucking liar.” I march toward Lee and don’t stop walking as I pick her up and palm her ass.

“What are you doing?” Her words come out on a laugh as she locks her ankles behind my back. “We’re due to play.”

“They can wait.” I march into the house and back her up against a wall. Her fingers sink into my hair, and I claim her mouth.

She tastes hot and sweet. Like I knew she would, and she’s soft too. My mouth consumes her. I want to own her. But she doesn’t surrender. Our tongues lap the other, sliding and writhing, fighting for supremacy. This is the girl I love. The girl that gives as good as she gets and never says die.
