Demi

Today we were visiting our mother’s grave, since today marked six months since she has been gone. Nia came up with the idea last week and at first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about it, but then thought it was a good idea. It’s not that I was still holding a grudge or anything, because as the weeks went by I was able to forgive her for all that she had done. Not just for her, but for me as well. My grandmother always told me that forgiveness was key in life, in order to let go and move on so that’s what I did. I just wish I could have told her before she died. That shit doesn’t sit well with me.

My grandmother was going to be there, along with my aunt Regina and one of my mom’s good friends. My aunt had agreed to fly in for a couple days, and she had got here last night in time for our little private gathering this evening. It’s nothing major just thought it would be good to gather and have a candlelit session and say anything we wanted to say to release all energies, good or bad. It was about seven o’clock, and we were all at my house getting ready to leave and follow each other across town to where she was buried. Zhy was coming, along with Nia’s dude and CiCi was supposed to be coming but we all know how flaky she is.

“Okay well we all set to go? Me and mama gonna follow you and Nia, right Demi?” Aunt Regina asked.

“Yup that’s the plan. We all gonna ride together and you guys can follow.”

“Yeah and I’ll be in the rear right behind you all,” Mama’s friend Celeste added.

“Wait a minute where is Cianna?” Granny asked.

“She supposed to be meeting us there Granny,” Nia answered.

I glanced at Nia and she tossed me a look, and we all left out en route to the memorial site. Zhy drove his truck, and me, Nia, and Naz hopped in. I turned the radio up, and we made it a casual drive instead of a sad awkward one. We talked about some of everything in the eighteen minutes it took to get there. Celebrity drama, new songs, reality tv bullshit, you name it.

Finally, we were pulling up to the large memorial cemetery where she was buried, and we parked, and all began to get out with our candles in hand walking towards the grave. It was almost sundown, and this was perfect for what we were trying to accomplish. We all gathered around her grave and put flowers all over it and reminisced about the few good times we did have. I noticed Granny looking around with a bothered look on her face. Probably because CiCi hadn’t gotten here yet. It was about seven thirty now.

“Look somebody call that child! I got to get home shortly, so I can take my medicine,” she fussed.

“I’ll call her again,” Nia said taking out her phone.
