Rebecca scowled. “Are you on my side or not, Meghan? You should have seen the way they treated me at the police station. They made me sit in a grimy waiting room, and I wasn’t even allowed to have lunch!”

“They didn’t let you eat?”

“They brought a boxed meal, but that isn’t real food. I could have starved!”

“Oh, Mama…”

Rebecca’s face darkened. “Don’t be condescending, Meghan; if you had been dragged to the police station, forced to mingle with questionable people, and given a boxed lunch, you would be just as upset as I am. It’s as if no one remembers that we are the Trumans! The Texas Trumans!”
