Be transparent about evolving plans for mental health services.
Even if you do not yet have a plan for providing officers with mental health services going forward, share whatever information you can. Officers appreciate transparency, even if all you can say is, “We are still working on setting up counseling with the employee assistance provider. We will let you know as soon as possible how to get assistance.” It tells them you are concerned about their well-being and working on it.
Be aware that most officers are in survival mode, trying to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
