“Man, Desi’s a problem out there on that court,” Nick stated. “I ain’t never seen nothing like her.”

“Yeah,” Chris nodded. “I’ve told her she’s vicious.”

“Shit, vicious ain’t the word. She’s going places. She’s a team player and she takes direction well. I didn’t think they was ever gon’ stop her.”

Chris thought about Desi’s performance during tonight’s game and he also had to admit that she showed out; but that was typical for her. He couldn’t recall a game where Desi didn’t give her all, even if they didn’t win.

“She has a lot of trust in you,” Nick continued, snatching Chris from his thoughts. “Guards usually go about their business, you know? They like to take the lead on their own. But I could tell that Desi preferred to move by whatever you instructed her to do. That shit worked too, bro. Congrats again on the win.”

“Appreciate it.”

“You good over there? You haven’t said too much since Lauryn left.”

“Yeah, I’m straight,” Chris lied.

After the game, Chris, Lauryn, Nick, and Imani had all went to grab a bite to eat. Afterwards, they came back to Chris’ apartment and Lauryn immediately left. Their energy toward each other hadn’t been right since their argument from earlier; so Chris honestly didn’t mind that she left.

His thoughts were too consumed with Desi and where she currently was. He didn’t want her with Jamel and he hated that he had to watch her leave with him. And now all he could think about was the look in her eyes before she walked off. It didn’t sit right with him.

“You about ready baby?” Nick asked Imani. “I’m trying to knock this drive out.”

Imani nodded and stood up. “Yeah, just let me use the bathroom.”

After Imani left the room, Nick looked at Chris and asked, “So, how long have you been messing with Desi?”

Chris eyed his brother with a confused expression on his face. He hadn’t told Nick anything about Desi, so he was surprised by his question. “What makes you think I’m messing with her?”

“Come on now, bro. I know you like the back of my hand. The first time I saw you place your eyes on her, I knew. If that didn’t give it up, the way your energy shifts when her name is brought up is a dead giveaway. Just keep it real.”

“You peep everything,” Chris noted, laughing to himself. “I guess that just means I need to be a lil’ more discreet. But since I trust you, I can openly admit to you that I want her.”

“Want her? Shit, it looks to me like you already have her. I also peeped how she was looking at you.”

“It’s complicated.”

“Obviously, since you’re still dealing with Lauryn. What you gon’ do about that?”

Chris shook his head. “I’ll figure it out.”

“She still tripping on you?”

“Same ole’ shit. We got into it about her not showing up when I need her to and she had the nerve to blame her boss. Talking about he ain’t letting her get no days off and shit.
