Sean had vivid fantasies of removing Theodore’s hand from his ass by force even as he smiled his way through conversations he rarely joined. Everyone at the party knew Theodore, but their attention skimmed over Theodore’s arm candy, which was what Sean had been reduced to for the evening. He’d played that role before on other missions assigned to him, just as he’d played various other roles throughout the years. That didn’t stop Sean from wishing it were Alexei’s hand on his ass.

Being pawed at by a stranger had lost its appeal years ago. Sean had done what needed to be done for his country without a second thought most days during his career, but tonight was more trying than usual. Maybe it was the lingering tension from the argument with Alexei. Maybe it was anger at himself for the mental roadblocks that kept him from reaching out to his lover. Whatever the point of origin, Sean was determined to finish this mission cleanly before turning his attention to the cracks at home that needed fixing.

Which meant smiling indulgently at Theodore every time the older man’s hands wandered and accepting whatever drink was given to him.

Sean was under no illusions about the possibility of drugs being sneaked into the mixed cocktails Theodore seemed to prefer in choosing for him. Sean was adept at appearing to drink without letting any liquid slide down his throat and discreetly exchanging his full glass with one of the many empty ones scattered around the party. Barring his sleight of hand, metahumans had higher metabolisms than normal humans, and Sean was doubling down on his body burning through drugs meant for a human.

Theodore had perfected this sick game over the years and the UMG had instructed Sean to let it play out. Sean wasn’t a fan of his underhanded methods, but unlike most others, he stood a chance of not succumbing to them.

I should let Alexei have his way with the asshole, Sean thought to himself.

He hadn’t seen Alexei since they parted ways shortly after arriving. Sean had turned off his comms to better concentrate on luring Theodore in. In the past, he’d had no backup with him in undercover missions, no one on the other end of the line. Silence was easier for him to work in like this, even if it wasn’t necessarily the best decision to make when working with a team.

Checking the chrono on his bioware, Sean realized their window of time would start to close soon. They needed the active noise of the party and a large number of people as cover for breaking into the panic room. He had to get Theodore moving.

Warm lips pressed against the shell of his ear, tickling his skin. “You seem bored.”

Sean didn’t pull away. “More like impatient. Your hand has been on my arse all evening, but your follow-through has been a bit lacking.”

Theodore pulled back enough to meet Sean’s gaze, his grip tightening on the body part in question. “Is that so?”

Sean was fairly certain he’d have bruises on his ass before the night was over.
