CHAPTER SIX

I was so excited about my trip to London that I could hardly wait for Friday to arrive. Andre and I had been in touch daily, with a few of our late night calls leaving me hot and breathless and we talked about what we would do to each other when we saw each other in London.

Another exotic city. Another hot night. It made our upcoming rendezvous seem even more thrilling.

And with my new attitude about our affair, it was almost better that we were hooking up in another country. Getting busy with Andre outside of our neighborhood was ideal. Who needed the prying eyes and the questions? And if our affair fizzled and died, it would be far better to have less questions to answer rather than more.

“One day at a time,” I told myself. Then I looked at the clock. In exactly eighty-two minutes, I was scheduled to leave the office.

Just about seventy minutes later, my office phone rang and I snatched up the receiver. “Bella Sinclair.”

“Ms. Sinclair,” my secretary said pleasantly. “The limo driver just called. He’s downstairs and ready to take you to the airport.”

“Excellent, Gretchen,” I told her. “Thanks.”

I got up and went to the mirror on the wall, where I checked out my appearance. My hair was in a bun, so it was still perfect, but I could use a fresh coat of lipstick.

Moments later, I was freshening up my face with powder and a new coat of my muted brown Mac lipstick. Then I got my carry-on luggage and started for my office door.

I opened the door, and gasped in fright. Throwing a hand to my chest, my eyes registered who had startled me. Brian, the co-worker who was uniquely interested in my sex life. If he weren’t gay, I would wonder if that interest extended to me.

“Brian,” I said breathlessly. “You scared me.”

“I just happened to be walking by your office and heard your secretary say that a limo is waiting downstairs to take you to the airport,” he said in a low tone. “I don’t remember you having any out of town travel booked.”

“That’s because I’m not going away on business,” I told him, also keeping my voice low.

Brian gave me a sly look. “Oooh, secretive! Where are you going? On a hot rendezvous?”

I took him by the arm and led him around the corner, away from Gretchen so she couldn’t hear what we were discussing. “Is your mind always in the gutter?”

“Should it be somewhere else?” He chuckled, then asked, “Are you going back to Paris?” Before I could respond, his eyes bulged and he said, “You did meet someone there. I knew it, when you came back, you had that I’ve been laid look.”

“Brian!”

He raised an eyebrow. “Am I wrong?”

“What is that look, by the way?”

“You know. That satisfied glow. Girl, you have been far less uptight.”

“Uptight?”

He waved off my question. “Tell me. Did you meet someone in Paris?”

Brian wanted a bone, so I threw him one. “I did.
