âYou keep dropping it.â Jimmy expressed his disappointment in Fatalityâs performance. A calm mind had great potential. A troubled mind had none. The culprit for broken concentration was a broken trust in others.
âEnough of this. It has been two weeks. Whatâs wrong?â
Jimmyâs mind was one of the ones Fatality could not look into, and with her faith in others decimated, she was unsure if his worry for her was true or not. Her scowl grew deeper, lining her face. She was hesitant to speak out. Jimmyâs expression eventually matched her own, disappointed in the delay of an answer.
âWhatever you tell me, I will keep in confidence.â Urging her to speak up would help, Fatality acknowledged it too. She could challenge the man to figure out what he knew and where he stood in relation to the Aons.
âDo you know what happened two weeks ago?â She could tell him, but he could also betray her.
âI know that when you came in on Friday you were absolutely miserable. And Mark, Barrett, and Wei claim they didnât push you too hard on that particular Thursday. No one saw you for most of the day. So no, I donât know what happened, and I donât know if I should ask or if I should not. I could try guessing, but I will never get it. Can I ask what is bothering you?â Jimmy ventured, looking for her permission.
All of Fatalityâs trainers knew where she was most times of the day. If he was like her other trainers who knew nothing, then Jimmy knew little as well. He was psychic though, and that made him both weird and special in the eyes of others.
âI thought they were fixing my hearing when instead they were putting my chip in. I wanted to be normal.â It was the perfect combination of lies and sincerity.
âDidnât realize you werenât. Can see how the mix up would be disappointing though.â There were times where he forgot she could not hear him. âIt must be painful to want to be something youâre not. I was the strange kid growing up. I know how it feels. Sorry, being psy-able isnât a disability. I see it as a gift. I see yours as a gift. Iâm not sure if someone has told you this, but deaf is a gift. And if you donât believe me, read my lips, because Iâm telling you the truth.â Fatality smirked slightly, appreciating how he twisted that around by pointing out her lipreading. It did not help with her overall situation, but it made her smile.
âIf there is one lesson I can teach you, itâs to not dwell on the past, but to work on what you can change in your future. You have so much potential to do that with too.â
âThanks, Jim. Itâs good advice.â The overall exhaustion from burning her energy to spy on others though had taken a toll, thus she hoped for his further understanding. âI havenât been sleeping well and was hoping you could go easy on me?â She had never asked as she thought it was not her place to refuse training.
