He’d never expected it to work this well. Wander had hoped that restricting Burke’s mobility and senses would make it easier for him to surrender to the inevitable, but he’d never in a million years counted on Burke hitting subspace. But he had, and Wander had watched it happen. Now Burke lay on the table, completely relaxed, his body as pliant as could be.

Any remaining doubt if the man truly had submissive tendencies was gone, but his crash back into reality would be brutal. How would Burke feel when he realized what had happened? Wander hadn’t tricked him, but would Burke see it that way? Wander could only hope. His intentions had been good and pure, but that didn’t always count or even make it okay. Had he been wrong to force the issue? He’d never felt this conflicted before.

He kept an eye on the clock, and when he deemed it had been long enough, he gently took the ball gag out of Burke’s mouth, then removed his earplugs and his blindfold. When Burke opened his eyes, they were glassy, a sign that he hadn’t descended from his high yet. Wander slowly untied him, constantly touching him to make Burke feel he wasn’t alone.

“Come on, sweetheart, let’s go sit,” he said softly when Burke was free.

Burke obeyed, moving almost like a zombie, not unlike how he’d been when he’d been a frozen Popsicle in his car, only this time, he was warm and toasty. Wander sat down on the couch in the corner of the room and pulled Burke against him, the man’s head resting against his chest. He wrapped a blanket around him to keep him warm, then held him tight.

The happy sound Burke made nestled deep inside Wander, and Ryan’s words about the sexual tension between Wander and Burke rushed back to him. Had the PI been right? Had he somewhere along the way become attracted to Burke on a whole different level? He pushed the thought away. Burke needed his full attention now.

The naked man had curled up against Wander, seeking contact wherever he could, and Wander loved it. His hands found Burke’s warm skin under the blanket, and he caressed him, whispering soft words of encouragement. Burke hummed with contentment, rubbing his cheek against Wander’s bare chest, his hot breath dancing over Wander’s skin, hardening his nipples.

And then Burke’s body froze. One second, he’d been weak as a puddle, nestled against Wander, and the next, every muscle in his body grew rigid. He’d crashed.

“Sshh,” Wander said softly. “It’s okay, sweetheart. It’s okay.”

“Oh, god…” Burke gasped, a sound of pure distress.

“It’s okay, sweetheart.”

“No, no, no, no… I don’t want this…”

The devastation in those words broke Wander’s heart, and he yearned to hold him tighter, but what if that only scared Burke and made it worse? “It’s okay,” he said again.

“No, it’s not. I don’t want to feel like this… I don’t…”

Burke’s voice broke, and then the tears came. Now Wander did pull him closer, and Burke let him, clinging to Wander as if he was saving him from drowning.
