Shaya exhaled softly as she stared down at his latest text message. It wasn’t surprising for him to come over right now, but it did make her feel some type of way. Especially because she knew that her feelings for this man were only growing stronger each day that they spent more time together.

“Miss me?”

Gazing up into those bewitching eyes of his always was a problem. It was a problem because once locking eyes on him once, she wasn’t ever able to break away. God knew exactly what he was doing when he blessed you with these eyes, Shak. He knew that they would be my weakness.

Shakil was already a very handsome man. However, his hazel irises just made it worse. They pulled you in so well that you could never let go. Not that Shaya ever wanted to let go. He stood at six feet one, tall, dark, and handsome. Those were the three perfect words to describe him and the first thoughts that had come into Shaya’s mind when she had first met him.

How they had met?

It had been simple really. Her younger brother, Raden, had gone missing one night, and word had gotten around that he had taken a trip to the nearby nightclub with some friends. Shaya’s brother hadn’t even turned eighteen yet, so she knew the only way he would be gaining entry into an age restricted place was with a fake ID. She’d pulled up to the most popular nightclub in downtown Dallas, desperate to find him and take him home. Bumping into Shakil Reid had happened by mere accident. She hadn’t been looking where she was going, because all she was focused on was trying to catch a glimpse of her brother.

Not only had she bumped into Shakil Reid, she had knocked the drink in his hand over so that it had spilled onto his expensive designer shirt. Shakil had wanted to cuss her out, but then he noticed the sorrow plastered on her pretty face. It took him a few minutes, but he got her to open up to him eventually, which had been a challenge because Shaya was not friendly to strangers. After getting her to open up to him, he helped her find her brother who was located in the VIP section on the second floor, getting cheered on by everyone else as he showed off his dance moves. Shakil made sure to have a long talk with Shaya’s brother about his stupid decision to run away from home, without letting anyone know his whereabouts. He’d also been sure to let Raden know that he would be facing serious consequences for his actions and he had to take it like a man. Shaya appreciated Shakil talking to her brother and straightening him out, but in her mind it changed nothing. Shakil was still a stranger and not someone she felt she had any business with. But Shakil was on a mission that he wasn’t about to give up on.
