DURING MY INTERVIEW with Becky, the front door opened and Jack came walking through the door. I couldn’t wait to meet him, so I jumped out of my seat. He is a handsome thirty-year-old man with a smile better than most movie stars. He began to tell me about how he knows who I am because he saw me on E! Entertainment news. He said that he knew I was dating Jim Carrey and that he knew every movie Jim did and the year he did them. He also went on to tell me that Liar Liar and Dumb and Dumber were his favorite movies. While Jack talked, I of course observed his behavior to see how much autism I could see. I have to say, for a couple of minutes I had no idea. He seemed extremely polite, with a little bit of oddity in the tone of his voice. He was fully conversational and the only hiccup I might have seen was his not elaborating on or extending his thoughts.
I was taken aback by how much light was coming out of this man. I truly couldn’t get enough of his energy. He was like a lightbulb that went on when he walked into the room. He asked me if I could answer one question before he went out again. I said, “Of course, Jack. What is it?”
“What ever happened to Yasmine Bleeth?”
I smiled and paused for a moment. Of all the questions in the world he could have asked, he wanted to know what happened to Yasmine Bleeth, the former Baywatch beauty. I loved it. I told him I thought she moved back home to be with her family in Michigan. I’m not sure if I was right but I figured an answer would help him close the chapter on whatever happened to one of his favorite Baywatch babes.
After Jack left, I asked Becky about his social life. I wanted to know if he dates, considering he is a thirty-year-old man. “Yes, he dates. Well, he dates prostitutes. He has to pay for his dates, but he tells me sometimes he buys stuff for them like he would for a girlfriend.”
I paused for a moment and asked, “Can I put this in my book?”
“Absolutely. I think it is a big breakthrough, and I think that’s where a lot of people are going to have a lot of problems. They’re going to be closed minded about it, and you better be very open-minded about it, because sex is a natural part of men’s lives.”
I was grateful Becky was being so open about this real issue of sex that the new generation of autism hasn’t had to deal with yet. These men will have sexual needs someday, and the fact that they won’t be socially sophisticated enough to know how to manipulate woman like typical guys do for sex makes me wonder what the hell it’s gonna be like.
