old lock file: /data/db/mongod.lock. probably means unclean shutdown

In case you observe the above message, you can go ahead and remove the lockfile, and then execute the repair operation before the database can be opened normally.

When your system suffers from an unexpected shutdown, then there are two ways on how data files can be repaired, which include the following:

Use of the option “—repair” together with the option “—repairpath.” The MongoDB will then read your data files which are existing, and the data found will be written to the available data files. Before you can use this procedure, you will not be required to remove the file “mongod.lock.”
