Chapter 16

Waverly~

I couldn’t remember the last time that I’d been this pissed. I had no idea how I’d gone from doing my job to the shitshow that my life was now, but here I was. For four hours, customers had been rude to me, blaming me for the fall of Rome, and had been just downright ugly. I hadn’t ever experienced anything like it in all my life, and it wasn’t something that I planned on tolerating, either. As much as I loved Iesha and as much as I used to love my life here, I didn’t need this shit. There was absolutely nothing but a two-weeks’ notice stopping me from packing my stuff and moving on; something that I wasn’t a stranger to doing.

Plus, if it weren’t enough that the people of this city were unhinged, I had Atlas Braylon making shit worse every single time that he popped up in my life. Why couldn’t he just leave me alone? Why couldn’t he just make an apologetic statement on social media like everyone else? Why did everything have to be such a production with him?

Slamming my front door behind me, I knew that I needed to calm down. While emotions were a valid thing, they didn’t help you find solutions to your problems. I couldn’t afford not to face facts, and those facts came in the form of rent and utilities every month. With the way that things were going, I couldn’t see how I’d ever be able to support myself in this city.

Pounding on my door had my blood boiling again. Right now, it could be anyone on the other side of my door. It wouldn’t take a genius hacker to find out where I lived, so I could see some disgruntled fans being on the other side.

Fuck it.

Because I was itching for a good fight, I swung the door open without looking through the peephole. Filling up the door frame was Atlas Braylon, and who better to fight with? This was all his goddam fault anyways.

“What are you doing here?” I snarled.

“Move,” he ordered, his voice just as hard.

Needing to purge myself of all this anger, I stepped aside to let Atlas into my apartment. In here, I didn’t need to worry about cameras or witnesses. In here, I didn’t have to care that he was Atlas Braylon, Acers ice god. Plus, being my apartment, that gave me homefield advantage.

“Do you always follow people to their homes uninvited?” I sneered.

Those mercury-colored eyes flashed as I shut the door behind me. “Congratulations, you’re the first.”

“Wow,” I drawled out, unimpressed. “Don’t I feel special.”

In two steps, Atlas was looming over me. “What the fuck is your problem?”

“Me?” I shrieked. “I’m not the one that got you fired. I’m not the one that forced you to have to look for a new job. I’m not the one that plastered your face all over the goddamn jumbotron. I’m not the one that caused a scene at your new job, or on the goddamn sidewalk.
