Chapter Seven
Chandler and Celina both slumped to the grass and Broderick cursed as the blond grabbed Celina by the scruff of her cloak and dragged her across the graveyard. The redhead Broderick had in a headlock struggled to break free. Broderick unleashed The Hunger, causing his fangs to extend, and bit his thumb to draw his own blood, which he shoved into the mouth of his captive.
âDonât swallow that blood, Neil!â the vicar yelled.
Neil bit down on Rickâs thumb, drawing more of his blood. âThatâs a good lad!â he said with malice and thumped the man in his stomach.
The bald man ran toward Broderick with a silver stake in his hand. Too quickly for his attacker to see, Broderick ducked and struck the man in the nose, blood splattering over his moustache. He fell to the ground, moaning and clutching his face.
Neil was on his knees, coughing. Broderick yanked the Illuminati member to his feet, pulled his head back and waited until his victimâs thoughtsâfrantic and angryâfloated onto the air, a sign his blessed blood was now harmless. Broderick tilted Neilâs head to the side to expose his neck and bit down. The young man moaned and his body went limp in Broderickâs arms. As a last minute thought, he spared his victim. Killing these men would not prove to Celinaâs family he had control of the blood lust. He fed just enough to get the information he sought and dropped Neil to the ground.
Stalking to the fence, Broderick chanted the Norse words he just learned from Neilâs blood to bring down the barrier, which had trapped the wolves. Neilâs blood also told him the Hebrew incantation on the property was erected by the vicar, so he was next. A bolt slammed into Broderickâs shoulder and he grunted.
âThat should have stopped him, Vicar!â the blond stammered and fumbled with another arrow. This manâs name was Boyd, Broderick now recalled from Neilâs blood.
Broderick yanked the offending projectile and examined the Angelic Keys carved along the wood. He had a counter spell for that on his arm, which is why the arrow didnât work. Although the silver tip would leave a scar. He flung it at Boyd. The bolt stabbed him through the hand, pinning it to the crossbow and the blond fell to his knees, whimpering.
âI know who you are,â Vicar Hanson snarled.
The old man mumbled a simple, unfamiliar command and Broderick gasped from the agony that seized his spine and dropped him to his knees. Molten lead seemed to pour down each vertebrae and spread through the core of each bone in his body.
Neil stood over Broderick, smirking and obviously enjoying Broderickâs pain. Pulling a silver stake from his belt, he gripped the weapon and raised it over his head. Broderick was helpless to do anything to stop him.
âNeil, wait!â the vicar shouted.
The redheadâs arm stayed poised in the air, confusion in his eyes as he regarded the old man. âWhy?â
âYou know the procedure! Torture first, then kill. I want to know why theyâre here.
