“Why isn’t she changing?” Jaydel was pacing the bedroom while Rial was examining Emerald.

“Because your byema is a bastard?”

“That’s what she said.”

“I am not a bastard. If she had flinched, or moved, she would have been dead, and you know it.”

He didn’t want to agree, but his byema was right. They wanted a mate that was alive. His byema knew the force of his bite. One sudden move on her part would have been her death. Now, though, she wasn’t waking up. No one knew why.

“Physically her body is recovering from the bite.”

“It’s all in her head?” Jaydel’s head snapped up when his words registered in his ears. He looked at Rial before he sat on the bed.

He knew what was happening and there was nothing he could do to save his abraza.
