Night chuckled. “Oh, Akira, how you underestimate me.” He nibbled his ear. “I am a Hunter after all. It’s the others you should be worried about. Besides, where else do I have to be than by your side tonight?”

“Mating is forever,” Akira stated. The bond formed between destined mates who had undergone the mating-moon ritual was stronger than any formed between a non-mated pair. As destined mates, they would forever be bonded, body and soul, and once a bond that strong had been formed completely there was no undoing it.

From then on out, anything Night felt, Akira would feel as well, and when the time came should one of them die, then other would, too.

That is why most destined mates didn’t compete for their lover if they hadn’t reached their three hundredth full moon yet. Instead, they would rather risk losing them to the bond that is formed between the winning competitor and their mate than to undergo such a strong connection with someone for the rest of their life.

It was generally a fifty-fifty toss-up. Some destined mates could survive the change in their relationship after the mating-moon ritual, while others chose their mating-moon mate over their destined mate.

Akira wasn’t sure which category he’d fall into, but he hoped he could stay with Night afterward. He’d never felt feelings so intensely for another person as he did for Night.

“Mating isn’t something anyone should take lightly.” He looked up into Night’s deep-green eyes, and his mouth watered for another taste. “Let’s…just go, Night,” Akira said, looking at his feet.

Akira dressed quickly, finding what little bits of clothing he had left from the night before. He tried not to look at the Hunter. He was already feeling the effects of the moontide. Already feeling his blood stirring, beginning to boil at the thought of being his. Truly Night’s. It was impossible though. No one mated outside the Pack. “My Alpha will know what to do,” he muttered. “I promise. He’ll make this right.” At least he hoped he would. He couldn’t bear to think of the alternative.
