Chapter Six

Tarran shifted in his seat, his ass sore after Jasek had taken him the night before. He shifted his gaze around the table, looking at the collection of gsing-tsa warriors. If any of them found out what he’d done the night before, he was sure he’d be sent from the table, their backs turned to him forevermore.

None of that had meant anything last night.

Witnessing the dramatic reunion of Jasek’s parents had been emotional. The acceptance and love between Tralian and the Emperor had been incredible. But seeing the Emperor use guilt to shackle Jasek into a position he did not want had been hard to watch. Jasek had looked wild after, untamed.

And he’d needed to control the situation. Tarran had understood that and yielded to his mate’s need.

But now that he’d surrendered, he couldn’t go back. Not now, not after Jasek had gotten exactly what he’d wanted. Jasek would expect Tarran to continue to submit, from this day forward.

It was all Tarran wanted.

But he would lose so much for doing so.

“We anticipate an attack from the D’starians, even though we do not know if they are aware of the peace talks. They cannot allow the Zyrilians to side with the Tyri and Goans. They will do anything to stop these proceedings. And now with our three princes here at the palace, we are at a greater risk. All of us must be on high alert,” Tralian announced to the group.

“The Emperor already seems confident in the ambassadors’ agreement to the terms. If the D’starians knew of the talks, wouldn’t they have attacked by now?” Tylien asked.

“It could be a good sign that they haven’t,” Tralian answered. He stared at every male seated at the table. “Or it could be them sitting back, waiting for the moment of ultimate destruction. We need to be vigilant.”

“Are we to hide the prince’s presence here? I wished to publically claim Kye as soon as possible to fortify our matehood.”

“No, we are not hiding them. I think a public claiming would be a good thing, show that our princes are fully protected by their sentinels.” Tralian turned to Tarran. “And you should claim your prince as well. The sooner, the better.”

Tarran squirmed in his seat, unable to meet Tralian’s eye.

“Ahh… Tarran might need more time. His prince is a bit of a… handful,” Trex spat.

Tarran looked to Trex, not expecting the help. Trex stared at Tarran, a hint of understanding there. Did his cousins know? How could they?

“Handful or not, Jasek cannot remain unmated any longer, especially given that he will be the next Emperor,” Tralian countered. “It’s time. We need to plan both ceremonies for the next few days. The ambassadors can witness Jasek’s claiming and be comforted that the prince is fully protected.”

Tarran said nothing. He felt the gazes of others on him, as if they expected his response. He finally looked up, into their awaiting stares.

“Is Jasek too much to handle?” Tralian asked with a chuckle.

Tarran raced through his head, trying to find something to say, anything to take the focus from him right now.
