The water pulled me deeper until all light was gone, along with any heat the water may have had. I shivered as the vortex spun me around and tumbled me this way and that. Blinding light pierced the gloom, and I saw a beautiful marble city spread out before me. A woman floated forward next to me and bowed. “Goddess.”

The very water that had carried me here, was like oxygen on Earth. I instinctively knew I wasn’t on Earth anymore. The woman next to me, had a tail and fins and what I was guessing were gills. “Where am I?” I asked, hoping she understood what I was saying.

“You are in Atlantis.” She looked me over and then handed me a shell necklace. “I am sent to ask you to give this to our queen. She has been in your world for too long and needs to return.” She bowed once more, then swam off towards the city below.

I watched her trail of bubbles disappear before another figure arrived. This time however it was Nan, and she was pointing up. I looked at the shell in my hand and began to swim upwards. I couldn’t tell how long I would have to swim, but it slowly became darker and darker the higher up I went.

I broke the surface of the water and was transported back to the portal stones. As soon as I reappeared, I heard several guns cock and red dots began to appear on my chest. I slowly bent down to retrieve my clothing when a movement drew my eye, River was trussed up like a roast with a knife to his throat. My gaze swung around the circle before me, seeing several of the others in similar states.

I began to contemplate how I was going to get the others out of this situation when Draven’s voice drew my attention. “I’ll give you a choice. You or them?” He drew my attention around the circle. I saw all twelve of my men tied up with knives to their necks and red dots of their own. I pulled my shirt on over my head and pulled my pants on too buy some time.

“If I go with you then you will release all of them? How do I know you aren’t going to kill them after I agree?” I asked Draven while evaluating the situation.

“I just wanted you to be aware of the fact I can get to you anytime I want, even in your dreams. Even when you are protected by the portal’s magic.” His voice faded as a hailstorm of bullets tore through the guys, and then tore through me.

I jerked through the altar stone, expecting an ambush as I rushed to stand. The pitch black was almost eerie in its silence, but then I heard a vague grunting sound and Lucien swore. I tripped over the altar while attempting to find Lucien and dropped the shell the mermaid had given me. Flicking my hand, I summoned a fireball and could see the ground in front of me.
