Chapter Ten

Tre

I watched that soft ass nigga wrapped his arms around Charity, and when he kissed her, I almost lost my fucking mind. If it wasn’t for Booker threatening me not to fuck up his day, along with TJ harassing me for attention, I would have killed Bryce. I wanted to put his ass in a grave, but I kept my temper under control as I watched her walk him out.

“Don’t fucking start no shit with her, nigga. This is your fuck up,” Booker said, standing next to me.

“Mannnn,” I dragged out, trying to refrain from cussing his ass out.

“This is Imani’s day. If she has to put her shit to the side to help her friend because you acted like an ass, you gone have to see me.”

I cut my eyes at him, seeing that he wasn’t playing with my ass. I wasn’t afraid of Booker, but he wasn’t afraid of me either, and I knew that this day was important to both him and Imani. I wasn’t trying to ruin their shit, but I had to figure things out with Charity. The talk we had earlier didn’t go like I wanted, and I couldn’t leave it the way it ended.

I waited a few more minutes before dragging my feet into the house, checking for her in the kitchen. When I came up empty, I glanced out the window to see out on the porch. She really was nowhere to be found, and for a second, I wondered if she left with him, but Charity wouldn’t just walk away from TJ without letting someone know. It didn’t matter what else she had going on; he was her number one priority at all times.

I walked into the back of the house and saw that the bathroom door was closed. I wiggled the handle and pushed it open, finding her sitting on the side of the tub with her chin propped up on her hand. She looked drained with silent tears streaming endlessly down her face. I stepped inside and closed the door behind me, leaning against it. Her eyes stayed trained on the same spot for another minute before she slowly raised them to look at me.

“What do you want now, Tre? Did you not get enough of my tears earlier?”

“I don’t want to see you cry.”

That only prompted more tears. She didn’t open her mouth to say anything, but I could see the anger in her eyes. I could see the battle she was fighting with herself, and I felt like shit for causing her so much stress. She made no attempt to wipe her face, so I pushed my body off the door and closed in the space between us, squatting until I was eye level with her. She didn’t move when I brushed my thumb across her cheek, wiping them away.

My heart skipped a beat as her eyelashes fluttered and stuck together from being wet. Her entire face was flushed, and her nose was red from crying. She was beautiful.
