Cook and Crumble Bacon

To cook bacon, place it in a cold large, shallow pan in a single layer.

Place the pan over medium heat. Let the bacon cook until it releases easily from the pan.

Keep turning the bacon until it’s brown. You’ll know the bacon is done when the hissing and spitting almost stop.

Drain the bacon on paper towels, then crumble using your fingers to break it apart.

Simmer Soup

Simmer soups uncovered unless the recipe specifically says to cover.

If a soup isn’t thick enough for your taste when it’s done, simmering for a bit longer will help some of the liquid evaporate.
