Chapter Eighteen

Bane refused to let Daisy go. She wasn't putting up much of a fight to get away.

"I really need to go." She peppered his face with kisses. "I promised Liz I'd be there at one o'clock, so she still had time to run some errands before she opens the pool for a private party."

He gathered her hair behind her neck. "You don't need your hair cut."

"Trust me. I do." She kissed him. "If it gets much longer, I have to tie it back for work, and it damages my hair after a while."

"Then, stay, and I'll cut it for you."

She laughed. "Absolutely not. Liz always cuts my hair for me."

He groaned, letting his head fall back on the couch. She ran her finger along his lower lip. Mr. Cranky Pants could pout.

"I'll hurry." She slid off his lap and grabbed the keys to her Jeep. "If you get hungry, last night's pizza is in the fridge. Feel free to knock yourself out."

He pushed himself off the couch. "I'll probably ride to the clubhouse and see what the guys are doing."

"Ride safe." She kissed him and then opened the door. "Try to stay out of trouble."

"Never."

She wiggled her brows. He slapped her butt. She left the house laughing.

Since he followed her out, she locked her side of the duplex. With a wave goodbye, she went toward the Jeep, and he headed toward his Harley. She had an extra spring in her step today after spending all weekend with him.

He had her seriously considering his joke to cut a doorway in the wall and connect the two living areas under one roof. They spent all their free time together. It was silly to have him pay for half the house when he only used her area.

Rounding the Jeep's bumper, she stopped and backed up, looking at the front tire. She groaned in frustration, seeing the rim sitting on the ground and the rubber deflated. The last thing she wanted to do was sit in the tire shop and wait for someone to patch her tire.

"What's wrong?"

She turned around. "My tire is flat."

He walked over and bent down, running his hand over the rubber. She got out her phone to text Liz that she'd need to cancel coming over to get her hair cut when Bane cussed.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

He crouched beside the tire. "I need you to get inside the duplex."

"Why?"

He stood, moving around the Jeep, and crouched near the other side. "Now, babe. Get inside."

Uneasy, she backed away and hurried into the duplex. She left the door open in case Bane needed to get inside, too.

Looking around, she tried to figure out what he was seeing. Her tire was flat, but it wasn't the first time she'd run over a nail or screw.

Bane straightened and took out his cell. He paced in front of the Jeep, looking around as he talked on the phone. She couldn't hear what was said. But his expression remained stern.

She texted Liz, letting her know she wouldn't be coming over.
